Edgar Allen Poe was a famous American writer. To better understand the writer, it is important to know something about his background.
Edgar Allen Poe died at 40 years old, in 1849, and he never was famous in the life time. The drugs and alcohol made him crazy and his life was never easy. He lived with a couple in Virginia. In 1820 the family returned to England. His heart was lost and he wrote the poem about Elmira and the story about lost love. Edgar Allen Poe married with his cousin Virginia, Edgar Allen Poe was 27, she was 17. In 1845 he wrote his poem the Raven. And he could not work in public and then they moved, after Virginia got ill she died at 24 years old, and Edgar Allen Poe wanted to marry a rich woman.
